Choose the right product for your skin type
Complexion types are based on how much oil (‘sebum') your skin produces. We need to be aware of hormonal and cyclic changes plus the environmental effects have on our skin throughout our lives.
Do you know which is your skin type now?
Here is an easy exercise to be sure.
Wash your face, wait 30 minutes. If only ten minutes goes by and your face feels tight, chances are very good that you have dry skin. After the full 30 minutes, put a single piece of tissue paper against each area of your face: forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks. Your oily areas will leave residue on the tissue paper.
Calvert Creak offers facial products designed specifically for each individual skin type; convenient in our time restricted life-styles with a basic 5 minute Daily Regime plus weekly treatment of Mask and Exfoliator.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A DRY COMPLEXION
• lack of moisture caused by low level of sebum and may be slightly flaky
• tightness; feels uncomfortable and dry until moisturizer is applied
• has a matte appearance and looks dull especially around eyes and cheeks
• prone to fine lines and has very small or invisible pores
• may be exacerbated by too much sun, extremes of temperature and by wind; harsh products, medications and worse with air conditioning,
• poor diet and water intake; deficiency of Vitamin A and B may also contribute
Genetically determined and hormonally triggered; plus a natural consequence of the ageing process as sebum production decreases. Restoring resilience, replenishing moisture and rebuilding support layers through your daily regimen will help dry skin to retain vital moisture. Protecting your skin in cold or windy weather and treating your skin gently can help to prevent broken capillaries. Deliver moisture and nutrients via daily moisturizing regimen, facial mask weekly, and exfoliation 2-3 times a week. Increasing internal water intake and dietary nutrition will give support to maintain optimum hydration for the complexion.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A COMBINATION & PROBLEM COMPLEXION
• an overabundance of surface skin cells and excess sebum production
• combined with bacteria results in inflammation
• hormones and genes are the two primary causes
• prone to breakouts, pimples and blackheads
• redness; inflammation and irritation
• skin is producing different amounts of oil in different areas
• develops an oily or shiny appearance on the T-zone by the afternoon

Resist the temptation to touch blemishes, this may cause prolonged aggravation and can cause further infection. Manage the skin with a daily skin care program of cleansing and moisturising plus a weekly exfoliation followed by a mask. Moisturising problomatic skin is important, providing a humectant (attract water) - if skin becomes too dehydrated, the sebaceous glands may respond by producing even more oil, creating a cycle of imbalance.

CHARACTERISTICS OF SENSITIVE SKIN
• fine textured or ‘thin skin’; delicate, tending to be dry
• prone to reactions from various products and chemicals or situations by stinging or uncomfortable sensations
• tendency to redden easily
• prone to rashes and irritations
• burns easily with sun exposure; reacts to change in weather conditions
Sensitive skin is easily irritated by anything from a new fragrance to laundry detergent or medications and must be treated with great care. It is important to use products specifically developed for sensitivities to avoid provoking negative reactions. Soothe, calm and hydrate the skin with a regular maintenance program which will strengthen cell tissue. Everybody's skin has the potential to become "sensitive", although some people experience ongoing symptoms of sensitivity.
Usually dry, delicate and sensitive or mature skin that is thin and fragile is most susceptible to broken capillaries. Abrasive cleansers and facial scrubs, harsh cosmetics, forceful massage, rough handling of the skin, alcohol, caffeine, certain drugs, extreme changes in temperature, harsh winds, overexposure to the sun, spicy foods and stimulants can contribute to or cause excessive sensitivity and broken capillaries. Protecting your skin in cold or windy weather and treating your skin gently can help.

CHARACTERISTICS OF AN OILY COMPLEXION
• sebaceous glands producing too much oil
• large pores
• oily or shiny appearance by midday, all over the face
• regularly prone to breakouts, pimples and blackheads
The excess surface oil produced by overactive oil glands, and enlarged pores make the typical oily skin prone to blackheads and blemishes. In a bid to control excess oil and blemishes, skin is often over-stripped of moisture due to excessive cleansing; this can lead to elevated production of sebum. Changing your pillow case each day and a regimen consisting of gentle cleansing, exfoliation and hydration with a light moisturisation will create the optimum balance.
